For £15, you can buy a very special treat for four HIV+ orphans at Sarnelli House in Nong Khai. A group of four children are taken out into town every Saturday afternoon and are given some pocket money to buy what they want at the supermarket. They grab a trolley and head straight for the sweet aisle-this is their treat after all. Each child pays for their items at the checkout and waits expectantly for any change they can pocket. With everyone clinging tightly to their own purchases they then cram into the local ice-cream and they get to pick their ice-cream of choice. Usually for the boys it's big chocolate sundaes, whereas the girls tend to go more for the colours and decorations - flags and red cherries are a temptation.

They sit and enjoy their treat, some finish it and some don’t, and some look quietly at families sitting all around them with a faraway look in their eyes, the ice-cream forgotten for a moment.
